Why the feathers though?

This is Andy Watts, a printer and paper merchant in Newbury. He features in our Best of Newbury exhibition as, well, himself. This is pretty much his character. We wanted a shot that showed what he did, but of course, also his personna. He’s the joker at the company Appleprint and takes any opportunity to dress in weird attire for the annual Christmas card. So when he offered to sit for the exhibition, it made sense to wrap him in paper in some fashion. We keep rolls of colourful paper in the studio, which are used for backdrops. One white roll was pretty scruffy, but I’d hung on to it, hoarded it - and I’m glad now I had. We fashioned a Sitting Bull style headdress from a torn off edge (can’t remember why), then asked him to dive through the paper. This is the result.
