Summer cooking, man style
By nealejames | August 20, 2006
Barby season… tis the season to be a man at the stove isn’t it?! It’s not for the faint hearted or girls, because you’ve got to come out grunting and all alpha male from the shed, heaving this ‘should be’ condemned health threatening barby full of spiders and cat pee into the garden, spatula and tongs in hand. We don our asbestos suits, ignore all the health warnings on the barby coals bag, and light the thing with the aid of a gallon of unleaded. It’s Buncefield in moments. We stand back, scratch a little, then chuck a pound of cheap flesh on to the rusting griddle. We let in burn up and go black on each side and then throw it on to a plate with a look of Gordon Ramsey style satisfaction (after of course it’s been dropped on the patio for the dog to lick a few times). “That’s food girls,” we say. Nought to cinder in 5 seconds.
