School photography? Really?

By nealejames | August 9, 2006

Our first reaction to being asked if we would photograph pupils was to run in the opposite direction, fast. These are words we use on the description page of the main Breathe Pictures site. Initially this was because we didn’t feel we would be able to relate our product to the time honoured traditional method of school photography; mottled blue backgrounds, fixed lighting and single expressions. Ironically it’s now one of the most important and dynamic parts of our company. Today we started preparations for a new term. So how is our treatment different? Parents get a choice of images - we use creative lighting - our pictures are retouched just as they would be in a studio, to remove those everyday bumps, bruises, scratches and… even chicken pox! - we offer classic black and white options - the pictures come in ‘normal’ size ratios so that you can purchase high street frames - they have life and emotion. This clearly sounds like a commercial, suffice to say, we love proving that school pictures don’t have to be… well, school pictures. Photo and picture (c) Neale James, Breathe Pictures.
