Wedding group shots
By nealejames | August 5, 2006
On your wedding day, remember that the more time you spend shuffling around for shots with long lost cousins and multiple combinations of friends, the less time you’ll have for personal shots of yourselves. We often get asked how long the photography will take and hear plenty of dramas about photographers who’ve taken over on the day and outstayed their welcome. If you want the photography to be more discreet, think carefully about too many group shots. Much better to end up with a magnificent album featuring shots of YOU and candid reportage material of your friends, than line ups of just about every wedding guest in attendance. That way the photographer will seem a part of the party, rather than a section of the day. Here’s one possible sequence; the shot of everyone, then just friends (whilst family stand to one side), just family, parents or partners from both sides of the family, then groomsmen and bridesmaids, or maids of honour. This is a good subtractive way of working group shots effectively, with mimimum fuss. Then, the photographer can concentrate on the couple, for a short while, with accompanying glass of champagne obviously. Photo and blog (c) Neale James, Breathe Pictures.
