Is the Best Man really best?
By nealejames | August 1, 2006
If you don’t have a Master of Ceremonies, make sure your Best Man isn’t a shrinking violet. For sure you want a relaxed atmosphere, but it’s equally vital that the day runs to the plan you both had for it. The Best Man has some important duties and these run further than organising a stag party and making ‘that’ speech. At the reception venue there is much the Best Man can do to assist the timing. He can act as the conduit between wedding party and venue organiser. The bride doesn’t want her husband negotiating with the venue for extra drinks, better service etc on the day. Tell the Best Man exactly what you’re expecting from each part of the day and give him a list of people to look after etc. For photographers, the Best Man can really aid and swiften the process of group shots by sharing the picture list and making sure people and family members are in place. Introducing Bride and Groom at the wedding breakfast is important. Give them a grand entrance and make them feel special. So often we’ve seen venue organisers embaressingly whisper the entrance announcement. Take control here and insist that you want to do it for their special day. And then there’s that speech. That’s another blog altogether! Blog by Sam Edwards, Breathe Pictures.
